Tennis star Serena Williams won the 2009 Australian Open giving her 10 all time Grand Slam wins and also making her the #1 ranked female tennis player. Williams is still somewhat far away from the women’s record for Grand Slam singles titles as Margaret Court Smith had 24 and Steffi Graf 22.

She and sister Venus also won the women’s doubles final Friday—their eighth Grand Slam doubles title and their third Aussie win, after Venus was eliminated from the singles.

From the mirror: Serena Williams thrashed third seed Dinara Safina 6-0 6-3 in less than an hour to win her fourth Australian Open women’s singles title.

The victory was Williams’s 10th singles Grand Slam title, making her the seventh woman in history to reach double figures.

While she is a long way behind Aussie legend Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam championships, Williams hasn’t ruled out breaking the record by the time she hangs up her racket.

“That’s a long time, away and it could definitely happen if I stay focused,” said Williams.

“I idolised Steffi Graf while I was growing up. Martina Navratilova was a role model. Now people are starting to talk about me, which is uber-cool. I can’t get my mind around it.”
