Disgraced track star Marion Jones gave her first post-prison interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” after being released Sept 5 from a Texas prison after completing most of her six-month sentence for lying about steroid use.
In the interview which aired today, an emotional Jones said she often thinks she would have won gold medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics even if she hadn’t taken performance-enhancing drugs.
Since stripped of her medals, Jones still maintains she thought the steroids were flaxseed oil when her coach gave them to her. She remembered the moment she decided to lie about her drug use -when prosecutors showed her a sample of tetrahydrogestrinone (THG), she broke down in tears said “I knew that I had taken that substance, I made the decision that I was gonna lie and I was gonna, you know, try and cover it up.”
