The Sportsman of the Year at the annual Singapore Sports Awards found, for the second year in a row, two women on the receiving end. Paddler Feng Tianwei (pictured on left), 23-years-old, took the Sportswoman of the Year honours, while swimmer Quah Ting Wen (pictured on right), 17-years-old, will be given a special award for Most Inspiring Young Athlete. The second award is only the third time it or something similar has been given in the 43-year history of the awards.
These two women have again taken the gender out of the equation. Asia One reported, “the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) – the selection panel for the awards – found no suitable male athlete who produced significant results in the global sporting arena.”
