The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations awarded sprinter Debbie Ferguson-Mckenzie, 33-years-old, with the Charley Major Award winner for the overall Athlete of The Year. Among her accomplishments this year, Debbie won a bronze medal in the 200m at the World Championships in Berlin at the 12th IAAF World Athletics and anchored the women’s 400m relay team to the silver medal.

At the 2000 Olympics, her 4×100 relay team took home the gold medal. In 2001 she won her first individual gold medal at the World Championships after Marion Jones was stripped of her gold medal and her second place finish was pushed to a first place finish. She currently holds the national record for the 200m with a time of 22.19 seconds.
