Emily Zaler was a Division-I soccer player before she suffered a career ending injury. Instead of leaving the sports industry as a whole, she re-grouped and focused on her love for fitness. Emily told her story on SiouxCountry and explained how she coped with losing soccer:
“I have been playing soccer since I was 6. I played for both the University of Oregon and the University of Missouri my first two years of college. Unfortunately, I suffered a career ending knee injury and can no longer play soccer. When I found out I couldn’t play anymore, I decided to give up my scholarship to the University of Missouri and come back to Arizona, where I grew up, to focus on my career. Fitness has always been a passion of mine. I have always loved weight training. I started weight training when I was a freshman in high school and have been hooked since. So when I got hurt and found out I couldn’t play soccer anymore, training for my first figure competition gave me a goal to work toward and something that I can still be competitive with now that I cant play soccer.”
In addition to competing in the NPC, she has written a cook book: EZ Whey Cookbook. A book that offers “clean eats that taste like cheats.” She has put taste into diets!
