Creating Women’s Belt Wrestling Program in Iran is among the Wrestling’s Top Ten Stories of 2015.

The program is a first of its kind for Iran and was part of a larger push by the country’s wrestling federation to include Iranian women in the sport of wrestling, Unitedworldwrestling.org reported.

Iranian Wrestling Federation president Rasoul Khadem confirmed in February that women in the country would begin to train and compete in female belt wrestling.

“We are excited to work with the Iranian federation in their efforts to provide wrestling opportunities for the women of their country,” said United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic. “We applaud their progress and eagerly support this recent development.”
