Elena “Baby Doll” Reid, at 29-years-old, is trading her boxing gloves for the octagon. As journeyman in her boxing career, she won the IFBA and WIBA Flyweight titles. Her first octagon appearance was against reality television starlet Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson (who appeared with Gina Carano in Oxygen Network’s, Fight Girls and is pictured left). She was considered quite the underdog in the match but opened the eyes of the MMA community when she won by TKO in the second round. Any remaining doubters got checked in her next fight against Masako Yoshida. Elena won through another TKO and claimed the Flyweight title.
The Bleacher Report wrote: “Her (Elena Reid) ability to slip punches is among the best in women’s mixed martial arts. She has power in both hands, and she has also shown she’s willing to work the body, something rarely seen in the sport right now.”
Something else the Bleacher Report noted was Elena’s game still has some work to go. On the ground she currently lacks skills to properly defend herself or be competitive. But, if she continues improving like she has, she is sure to be a top contender in women’s MMA!
