Teresa Edwards, who has been labeled as the most-decorated women’s basketball player in the history of the sport, just had another feather put in her hat when she was officially inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this month. She is the only U.S. basketball player to participate in five Olympic Games and win a four Gold Medals.
In 1984, she was the youngest member of the U.S. team (a sophomore at UGA) to capture Gold during the Los Angeles Olympics and then went on to win Gold in 1988, 1996 and 2000. In 1992 she and her teammates took Bronze. Georgia Sports Communications said, Teresa was the backbone of nearly every U.S. National Team that entered a major international competition for the end of the 19th century.
In 2000, she was the co-captain of the U.S.team when they won the Gold Medal in Sydney. This win give her the unique statistic of being both the youngest and the oldest women’s basketball player to win Olympic Gold.
