Deena Kastor, 37-years-old, has been running for 26-years. She has already won the London Marathon once (in 2006) when she set the American record and became the second fastest women to finish the race in the marathon’s history (2:19.36). Four years later she feels good enough to compete and win the 2010 London Marathon this weekend.

“It remains exciting for me and I still feel I can perform at the top and I’m looking forward not just to doing well in this weekend’s race but also New York later in the year. I’ve been running for a long time, since I was 11 years old, but even though I’m 37 now I still love what I do,” she said. “There are always new things to accomplish and I keep finding new challenges and new hurdles which I want to attack.”

Since her London Marathon victory, Deena has struggled with injury, including a devastating foot injury at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Because of the injury she was unable to run the rest of 2008, but she is ready to reclaim her place in the competition.

“London suits me because I love to race hard from the start, and I prefer races which aren’t as tactical and you just go out as hard as you can,” she said.
