081308haneefattack2-s.jpgThe U.S. Olympic Women’s Indoor Volleyball Team, led by Tayyiba Haneef-Park’s (Laguna Hills, Calif.) 17 points, topped Venezuela 25-17, 20-25, 25-14, 25-18 on the third day of pool-play matches of the 2008 Olympic Games at Beijing’s Capital Indoor Stadium Saturday night in Beijing.

The U.S. (2-1) continues pool play on Aug. 15 versus host China at the Capital Indoor Stadium at 8 p.m. U.S. Olympic Women’s Volleyball Coach Lang Ping (Beijing) starred for China at the 1984 Olympic Games, leading the team to the gold medal. She later served as head coach for the Chinese team that won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Haneef-Park scored her 17 points with 14 kills on 28 swings and three blocks. Logan Tom (Salt Lake City, Utah) added 15 points with 12 kills, two blocks and an ace. Kim Glass (Lancaster, Pa.) chalked up 12 points with nine kills and three blocks, while Heather Bown (Yorba Linda, Calif.) contributed 10 points on seven kills via 11 errorless swings and three blocks.

Joines came off the bench to score seven points with a team-high four blocks and three aces. Rounding out the scoring was Robyn Ah Mow-Santos (Honolulu) with two blocks and a kill, Danielle Scott-Arruda (Baton Rouge, La.) with two points and Ogonna Nnamani (Bloomington, Ill.) with a single tally.

Ah Mow-Santos added 17 assists and 13 digs in the victory, while Nicole Davis (Stockton, Calif.) match her dig total and provided six excellent service receptions on 20 chances. Tom contributed six excellent service receptions on 14 attempts to go with nine digs.
