The Sony Ericsson Open finals are upon us. Tomorrow, Saturday April 3rd, Venus Williams will make her first appearance in the Sony Ericsson Open in nine years. She spoke about her dry-spell:

“I’ve tried to get to the final,” Williams said. “Didn’t always work out. Ran into a player that played better than me that day. So obviously I’m really happy to be back in this final, and obviously I want to take it a step further.”

Venus will face Kim Clijsters for the 12th time in their careers. So far Venus has won six of the match-ups but Kim is looking to even the score.

“I feel that I’m comfortable enough and fit enough to last with them in the rallies,” Kim said, referring to Venus and Serena Williams. “I think also a lot is going to come down to the serves. I know that I’m going to have to serve really well against her and get a high first-serve percentage in. Yeah, just try to get an edge in the rallies with my serve from the beginning.”

The picture above is from early March when both women were in the Billie Jean Cup at Madison Square Garden. Venus took top honors beating Kim. This will be a rematch so-to-speak.
