Nguyen Thuy Dung, 23-years-old, is the first Vietnamese woman who has ever won a US Tennis Association title even after an injury earlier this year. She was the top seed in the Roy Emerson Adoption Guild Tennis Classic in California. She won the tournament in the third set against Diannes Matias with a final score of 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.

Earlier in the tournament, Nguyen Thuy Dung and her teammate Nguyen Thi Kim Trang lost to Diannes Matias and Janet Lee 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-final of the women’s doubles.

Nguyen Thuy trains in Florida right now, with Roger Federer’s former coach, after a two-year spell in Thailand.
