Melanie Baskind has helped Harvard to take back-to-back Ivy League titles in soccer. Her skills on the soccer field are undeniable but her heart was split. In high school, she was a two-time All-American, and helped her team win back-to-back Division 1 state titles in 2006 as well as 2007. She was also selected as the Female Athlete of the Year her senior year in high school. This year, Melanie has decided to return to lacrosse since the two sports are in different seasons of play.
“A lot changed between last year and this year, academically and socially, that made the circumstances right for playing lacrosse again,’’ said Melanie. “Getting back to lacrosse isn’t necessarily about getting back into shape. It’s about focusing more on the pace, the formations, and systems. What’s also exciting is that I’m now playing for two up-and-coming programs and trying to help both teams get to the next level.’’
Melanie didn’t grow up playing lacrosse. In fact, she was a late bloomer, starting when she was a high school freshman. She began playing because of her sister, and like her sister, fell in love with the sport. Now both sisters are collegiate lacrosse players.
