Jessica Ennis, 24-years-old, is looking to enter two events in the 2012 Olympics, so long as the organizers approve and set the timetable up to allow her the opportunity. Jessica is looking to enter the 100m hurdles as well as the heptathlon.
“You might as well give it your all in a home Olympics,” said Jessica. “I hope they’ll be able to pull a few strings to let it happen.”
Jessica entered both the heptathlon and hurdles at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, but she withdrew after winning the gold in the heptathlon from the hurdles because she was only able to rest two days and that didn’t allow her to adequately recover.
A London 2012 spokesperson told BBC Sport: “Discussions regarding the timetable of events during the London 2012 Games are still ongoing. The schedule will be determined by the International Olympic Committee, IAAF and Locog in conjunction with Olympic Broadcasting Services. A draft schedule will be submitted to the IOC later this year.”
If the heptathlon and 100m end up being too close, she has other events she may also qualify for, but the 100m is her first choice. The 2012 Olympics are huge for Jessica, she missed the last Olympics with a stress fracture and the next Olympic opportunity will come around when Jessica is 30-years-old.
