The Sydney International Crown went to Russia’s Elena Dementieva, 27-years-old, for the second year in a row. Elena started as a fifth seed, but she delivered a heavy, virtually unanswered game (6-3 6-2) to the no. 1 ranked Serena Williams.
“I’m very satisfied with the way I was playing today and the whole week,” Elena told press. “It’s just great to have a chance to play against the best players in the world this week, especially coming into the Grand Slam. Right now I just want to enjoy the moment of winning Sydney.”
