The world snatch record set at Beijing Olympics in 2008, by Jang Mi-ran of South Korea, has just been broken by Zhou Lulu, of China.

Zhou broke the record at the 11th Chinese National Games earlier today. Zhou competed in the over 75kg division and snatched 145 kg in her second attempt and 148kg in her third. At just 21-years-old, she broke the record by 8kg.

The only sad part of this story is Zhou’s accomplishment will not be written in the world record books. The International Weightlifting Federation (the governing body), only recognizes records set in world, continental and Olympic competitions. However, her journey in this sport is just beginning and we can look for her to compete in qualifying competitions. Until then, China is proud and a talented girl is in the spotlight.

Here is a video of the China team including Zhou and her amazing lift.
