He Zi (pictured above) and Wu Minxia, representing China in the 17th FINA Diving World Cup, took the gold medal in the women’s 3m springboard synchronized diving. Through this win, China added number seven to their gold medal wins, but it was the pair’s first gold in the World Cup series. The women’s last dive scored 94.86 points, which was the highest score in the final. When all the water settled for the day, they got 354.9 and the gold.
Russia’s Svetlana Philippova and Anastasia Pozdniakova earned silver by scoring 323.52 points, and Canada’s Jennifer Abel and Emilie Heymans scored 322.5 and took the bronze.
In the individual competition, He Zi won her first world title in the women’s 3 meters springboard. In 2007, she was the one-meter springboard world champion. But this year, she led the final from the start to the end, winning her first world title in 395.55.
He said she was very nervous during the final: “I did not perform my best because I was so nervous. I am happy to win the gold.”
