Waterfall College Sports Co-Ordinator, Christine Eriksen will represent South Africa in the World Goju-Ryu Karate Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.
The Black Belt Karate enthusiast will competing in the Masters Category (45 to 55 years) in Kata (technical category) and Kumite (fighting category).
This follows her recent achievements at the KZN Annual Karate Awards where she earned her KZN colours, after winning double gold at the South African Open Karate Championships which were held in July.
Eriksen says she is currently training three to four hours a day at the dojo and the gym in preparation for the world champs. Her technical karate training is done with Sensei Ben Maré of Seiwakai and her personal trainer, Wesley Yeo does her strength and fitness training.
Christine has been at Waterfall College for five years. Principal, Mrs Jeanette van der Merwe said, “We are incredibly proud of Christine. She has brought a spirit of self-discipline, passion and honour to our sport at Waterfall College. We wish her the very best in New Zealand.”
