UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s next movie just got a lot bigger, with Mark Wahlberg reportedly negotiating to star in “Mile 22” alongside the most dominant athlete in sports.
Rousey landed “Mile 22” along with action star Iko Uwais after her last fight against Cat Zingano in February, with filming originally expected to start in May.
The film was pushed back but now has Wahlberg attached to star with Rousey as his co-star.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wahlberg would play a CIA agent in Indonesia tasked with getting a compromised informant from the middle of a city to an airport that’s 22 miles away. While attempting to get the informant out alive, Wahlberg encounters resistance from crooked cops, criminals and militant guerillas hell bent on stopping him.
“Mark Wahlberg and I are thrilled to have this project with Adam (Fogelson) and the team at STX Entertainment, and we are excited to be working with Iko Uwais and Ronda Rousey to create a fresh and daring new take on the action genre,” producer Peter Berg said on Thursday.
Rousey and Wahlberg both shared screen time in the “Entourage” movie released last month, which also was produced by the actor.
Wahlberg and Berg currently are shooting “Deepwater Horizon”, telling the story of the BP oil spill in 2010, with “Mile 22” expected to go into production afterward.
Rousey is preparing for her showdown with Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on Aug. 1 and then likely will take time off to shoot “Mile 22” later this year.
