Getting mugged is a very scary thing. In Acailanda, Brazil, like many places in the world, there are those who get desperate enough that they attempt to rob people who may have something they want.

In this specific case, one of these petty thieves was in for a rude awakening when he crossed the wrong “victim”.

Bastos told MMAFighting.com the following:

“I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle and said they wanted our phones. I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one.”

Bastos put the wannabe thief into an inverted triangle, and held him there until the police arrived. At one point, the man literally begs for his mom, dad, and Jesus to come help. My guess is that tactic didn’t work out in his favor.

Bastos also added, “I’ve been through this a few times before, and it’s the second time I fought back. There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It’s a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned.”

Oh, the humiliation. This is one of the most bad-ass ways to fend off a robber that I could possibly imagine.
