Women’s interest in MMA is growing beyond watching fights and carrying “Round 1” cards. Women are becoming active participants and proving that their capability and skills are nothing short of impressive!

Five months ago, Bernice Parson, 26-years-old, and Nancy Cook, 20-years-old, started taking a self-defense class, but it soon became much more (Pictured: Bernice in pink sleeves and Nancy in all black).

“You look at other sports like football, and I understand it’s a sport, but really it’s a game,” said Cook. “With fighting it’s more real. You have to prove yourself, and it’s a great challenge.”

The two women are looking to compete next year, but since they are residence in Maryland, where the competition of the sport is illegal, they will have to travel to a neighboring state.
