This year New Zealand has made known that they are an international female force in women’s surfing. For the first time in history, New Zealand had two competitors in the last 16 of a World Championship ”Dream Tour” surfing event at the TSB Women’s Festival in Taranaki on April 13th. Paige Hareb, 19-years-old, and Sarah Mason (pictured above), 15-years-old, battled their way to the end. Sarah was a wild card and the biggest surprise. Because the event was in New Zealand, New Zealand was offered a wild card slot.

The slot paid off big time, Sarah floated away from the early events with a win and move to the next round. The event will continue throughout the week and from the looks of it Paige is proving to be not only a home town favorite but a front runner for the last women standing.
