Helen Jenkins, 26-years-old, is an elite triathlon athlete. Elite triathlon was added to the Olympics in 2000 and the 2012 games is where her heart longs to be. Helen won the 2008 World Triathlon Championships in Vancouver, Canada. She had an off year last year after getting married, but now her focus is clear and her path is set.
“All of the athletes now are trying to be as consistent as possible and keep the performance levels as high as possible across the board,” said the 26-year-old. “I’ve got an excellent support team behind me and that’s what gets you to the start line in good shape. I’m just trying to keep all three disciplines on an even keel at the moment. It’s not really a case of trying to excel or work hard at just one because, if I do, then I believe the others will suffer. I believe that the course in London, especially the way it will be for 2012, will be really quite technical. Therefore, to me it’s extremely important to keep on top of all three disciplines. Last year was a bit experimental for me. Obviously London 2012 is my main aim, and I’m already working towards that as the end goal.”
