Brittney Griner, freshman at Baylor University, was a basketball star before she ever graduated from high school. At 6’8″ she was every recruiters dream, because she knew what to do with her height. She doesn’t play like a girl. She plays like a basketball player.
Headlines about Brittney often point to the reality that she dunks like a guy. She dunks alright; her senior year (last season) she dunked more than 50 times during the season. This year she has lead her team, Baylor, to the Final Four. She is just as good on defense as she is shooting. But, her explosiveness isn’t just on the court. Recently she was suspended for two games after punching Texas Tech’s Jordan Barncastle earlier this month (video below).
The true freshman has added some excitement to women’s basketball, something the sport needs. We look forward to her career and growth as an athlete.
