Venus Williams had no problem filling in for her sister, Serena, who is taking care of an injury. It had be several weeks since Venus had competed, but at the end of the day she beat out Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-3, in the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open.

“I felt good. You know, just haven’t played in a few weeks,” said Venus. “Just took a few games to kind of get some rhythm going and kind of really getting energy flowing. She played extremely aggressive. When her shots were landing in, it was really good stuff. But, you know, I think just toward the end my game got better and better, and I was happy with it.”

There are still some top ranked women in the play, including: Ana Ivanovic, Elena Dementieva, and Kim Clijsters. Time will tell if Venus will go the distance and takes back some of the Williams lime-light.
