A recent study has shown the shift in women’s attendance in the gym. Not too long ago, there seemed to be an invisible barrier separating the “girl stuff” (cardio equipment, stretching mats, and ab machines) from the “real stuff.” Seeing a women in the free-weight room was rare, and seldom welcomed, and a woman who actually knew what to do in there? Absurd. But times-are-a-changing, we had, in one election, the first female, black and the oldest candidates running for the White House. Regardless of the out come, we have turned a new page in history, and the same thing is happening in the gym.
Women may not make up their share of the day-to-day training, but thats changing too. The speculation to men frequenting the gym more often has been met with the suggestion that men see results faster and stay motivated as a result…Maybe, but either way we are on the fast track to teaching the gym world a few things about training. If we could only get more women looking like they are working out and not going out…
This chart (developed from a study done by the Book of Odds) shows the numbers of participants from each gender in a given time. It has no reflection to the frequency.
