This is the first headline in a while Lindsey Vonn has not been happy about being featured. In the opening run of the World Cup giant slalom, Lindsey (overall defeding world champion) crashed injuring her arm and leaving the gold up for grabs. Kathrin Hoelzl of Germany stepped in and took the World Cup title for 2009. Initially, Lindsey thought she had broken her arm, but test reveal that it is a bone bruise and the integrity of the bone is intact; all good news. The Associated Press reported:

“Vonn lost her balance on a bump after a sharp left turn, hitting a gate and losing a ski. After staying down for almost 10 minutes and receiving first aid, she put her skis back on and went down the hill with her arm in a sling.”

Depending on what the doctors recommend, Lindsey may or may not be confined to a cast. If she is, she will have to secure the cast to her pole to ski. This will be reminiscent of the World Championships where she cut her hand and had to secure her glove to her pole. Let’s just say Lindsey is well versed in skiing under a number of challenges. We look forward to her performance in races to come and the Olympics.
