INBA Bodybuilders Fail Drug Test
News — By Patricia on February 10, 2009 at 11:10 amTamiko Shibata, who won her class at the 2008 INBA Natural Olympia, has failed the drug test and been stripped of her title and banned for life by the INBA. Male bodybuilder Augie Cowan also failed the test and received a lifetime ban. I think it’s outstanding to see the firm actions taken by the INBA organisers.
The INBA Olympia is one of the premiere world events for natural bodybuilding, with competitors coming from all over the world to compete.
Tamiko’s test returned a positive test for Letrozole Metabolite, Clenbuterol, and Tamoxifen. Tamiko is a serving member of the US Marines, and has prior competed in military shows.

The INBA has a “death penalty” for doping offenses? The IAAF recently backed off doping bans from 4 years to 2 years. It seems every time they’d try to ban someone for 4 years, they’d go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport with their attorneys in tow and appeal until they were blue in the face. I guess they figured a 2 year ban might go over easier, since a four year ban would keep you out of the next Olympics – effectively a death penalty from sport. Only a couple of athletes in the history of track and field, in an ocean of drug positives, have ever fessed up.
Yes, the INBA is very strict with testing, “death penalty” never heard it that way, good phrase actually as that suits it well lol.
Lucky she’s American, one country the INBA forwards the info to the police and search warrants are executed on that person’s home for steroids on the basis of the failed test. She could have been arrested elsewhere.
I am actually happy to see it, as a natural competitor myself.
I think the Olympics is a whole new ballgame, good comments about it – I never thought of the 2/4 yr thing that way, but makes perfect sense.
Thing is they are mostly if not all using at Olympic level, its just who gets caught. But for say track athletes – they only have that one division really?
In bodybuilding, there are many. So for those that use, cool, just go in an open show. People like the lady above deliberately decided NOT to enter the open show and do a natural. A pet peeve of mine.
