Mainstream superhero comic books are often people’s first introduction to female muscle. They portray larger than life women with exaggerated physiques, wearing tiny and seemingly painted-on outfits. These girls can go toe-to-toe with the big boys in strength and determination. The similarities to female bodybuilding and fitness don’t end there.

Comic women have also impacted more than young boys and comic fans. Are these two-dimensional characters also shaping female perception of “the perfect body?” Fitness model & WWE Diva, Trish Stratus has a fascination for muscular comic book sirens and worked to transform herself into what she calls “the ideal comic body.”

There must be others? I’ve seen Wonder Woman & Super Girl outfits on muscle women around Halloween. Comic pages come to life and who wouldn’t want to look like that?

While Wonder Woman is the personification of strong & powerful women, how would she rank on today’s competitive stage? Most comic women have a “super” cup-size and IFBB fitness-like physique. A few have the mass of a bodybuilder or more. She-Hulk and Power Girl are two of the most popular amongst female muscle fans, but there are many others. Who are some of your favorites?
