Caesar’s Palace was home to one of the earliest true female bodybuilding contests in the early ’80s. NBC was on hand to cover this prestigious event, as they were the first to bring female bodybuilding to the public on their Sunday afternoon television sports show, NPC Sportsworld.

24 women from 7 countries competed, with each woman having to had placed in the top 6 of a national contest in their home country. The majority of competitors came from the United States. They were joined by other great champions from France, England, Holland, Australia, Belgium and Taiwan.

You will remember quite a few of these legends of the sport, whose names included Rachel McLish, Candy Csencsits, Dr. Lynne Pirie, Corinne Machado-Ching, Deborah Diana, Shelley Gruwell, Georgia Fudge, Mary Roberts and of course one of our all time favorites Kay Baxter.
