When PornHub released its list of the most popular search terms on its site in 2015, all of the usual suspects were there—sexy moms, naughty teens and pretend “lesbians.” Yawn. But hidden amidst those perennial favorites was something, well, enormously unexpected. The top gaining search term on the world’s largest adult site? “Giantess,” which refers to massively tall women. Searches for the term rose 1,091 percent since last year—a growth spurt not unlike that of the protagonist in the classic 1958 sci-fi film “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman,” who suddenly expands to the height of a skyscraper. And, beyond this upward trend on PornHub, giantess porn is living large across the Internet, from role-playing chatrooms to online forums.
What exactly is this burgeoning genre, you might ask? It’s not, as one might expect, Amazonian women dominating shorter men on camera. Instead, in PornHub’s 60-plus pages of “giantess” clips, women of fairly typical heights are shown interacting with miniature objects: model-train people are stepped on, put into virtually every orifice and, occasionally, make-believe eaten. Plenty of clips feature computer animations of women towering over cities like sexy Godzillas bent on destruction.
But the “giantess” world is much bigger than that: It isn’t limited to what might typically be called porn (videos featuring nude or semi-clad people in overtly sexual situations). In fact, it’s frequently explored instead in role-play chatrooms. And it also isn’t restricted to the fantasy of toweringly tall women, although that does predominate.
Most fundamentally, it’s a realm of fantasy around very big people and very small people. Some, known as macrophiles, fetishize the oversized; others, known as microphiles, get off on the undersized.
“I like the idea of being shrunk,” said a 27-year-old man from the U.K., who asked to be identified as Lemuel, the first name of the protagonist in “Gulliver’s Travels,” in a giantess chatroom. “I can find [sexual] stimulation from the thought of being dwarfed even by objects and things, not even just a giant woman.” A woman in the same chatroom explained, “The process of shrinking someone itself is arousing…watching them realize that their clothes are getting loose, seeing them shrink below my petite size,” she wrote, noting that classic tales like “Alice in Wonderland” and “Gulliver’s Travels” have played with shrinking, growing and size differentials. “Then picking them up and feeling them continue to dwindle and react, it is quite fun.”
In “giantess” chatrooms fans role-play shrinking and growing. The giants might flirt with the “tinies” by describing scenarios in which they pick them up or wield a foot over their heads. There are also forums for swapping Photoshopped images that bring these fantasies to life. In a thread on the website Giantess City, a user shared a mockup of Ariana Grande looming over a green, suburban landscape. (In response, someone wrote, “more like Ariana Venti, am I right?”) In another, a doctored image shows a naked woman lowering herself onto a large, phallic building. It is all wonderfully imaginative, playful and fun (although it does sometimes broadly overlap with more controversial fantasy realms, like vore porn, which depicts make-believe cannibalism).
Often, these fantasies feature an element of magic that suddenly makes someone bigger or smaller than the rest of the world—and then, bow chicka wow wow. It’s like the porn parody of “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” that, inexplicably, was never made. Imagined scenarios involve little people dropped into cleavage, enormous rear-ends descending like sexy anvils from the sky and ant-sized men crawling where no bug has crawled before.
In a giantess chatroom, a man with the handle 50ft_Jack (which changed to 500ft_Jack shortly thereafter) sketched out some X-rated scenarios: “Using little people almost like lubrication,” he said. “Inserting them in various different places.” Inherent to many of these fantasies is a dynamic of dominance and submission, but as one microphile told me, it rarely takes the form of whips or chains. This is power-play on a truly grand scale.
Ask a “giantess” aficionado why they’re into the genre and you’re bound to get any number of answers, often enough some variation on “I have no freaking clue.” One man attributed his desires to the fact that he’s a male feminist. “I basically despise all that stuff where the woman is leaning on the man, and he has to take care of her,” he wrote. “I prefer it the other way around. My giantess fetish, I believe at least, is an extension of that. I like the woman being in control.” A woman, who eroticized the idea of being made into a giantess, attributed her fantasies to the fact that she’s short in real life.
Most of the handful of giantess fetishists that I spoke with said their fantasies have been with them since puberty, and their desires simply feel like an innate part of themselves. “Why do people like chocolate? It pleases them,” said one woman. Lemuel asked rhetorically, “It’s like why are gay people gay?” It was a comparison he came back to again. “The first time I told anyone, it was [what] I imagine coming out is like for gay guys,” he said. “Only out of a mouse hole rather than a closet.”
