“It can be both, actually. Depends on how fast you go and how much resistance. Aerobic makes you breathe heavily. If you lift fast you can achieve increased heart rate/breathing. Overall, it is considered anaerobic because the purpose is not to increase heart rate/breathing, but instead to increase muscle mass. That, in turn, increases metabolism as more muscle movement burns more calories. Think of a marathon runner vs. a competition body builder. They both burn about the same amount of calories during their workouts. When you think of the difference, you get the answer. Source: Morgan
