The US Women’s National Soccer Team won the Algarve Cup by defeating Germany today, 3-2. The Algarve Cup is one of the most respected women’s soccer tournaments in the world and this was the women’s eighth appearance in the championship game. In the last eight showings, they have won six, losing to Germany in 2006 and Sweden in 2008. Both looses were on penalties.
The US team kept at least one goal ahead the whole game, but Germany did keep it interesting. Team USA reached the finals by knocking out Iceland, Norway and Sweden in earlier games, while Germany won each game against Denmark, China and Finland.
