Shelley Beattie (August 24, 1967 – February 16, 2008) was a loved bodybuilder, model and American Gladiator. Shelley wasn’t just a top three competitor in the Olympia and Arnold Classic, she was also one of the few deaf professional female bodybuilders in the world. She lost her hearing when she was three from an aspirin overdose. Shelley battled peers and an unstable home life. After ridicule, and injury and no where to turn, she began to start lifting weights.

She entered her first competition while in college, the Portland Rose Cup Novice, at 124 pounds, and finished 4th in the heavyweight class. Beattie loved the experienced and new that a career as a professional bodybuilder was what she wanted. During her competitive days she was known for her great genetics as well as her graceful and artistic presentation during her routines.

She ended her life in 2008 after losing a battle of depression and diagnosed bipolar disorder.
