Germany had a quite the clean up at the final giant slalom race of the season as reported by Slam!. Olympic silver medallist Tina Maze of Slovenia may have won the final race, but Germany’s Kathrin Hoelzl came in second which was just enough for her and Germany to take the World Cup.

Slam! reproted: “Kathrin is also the world champion in the giant slalom, [she] won three of seven giant slalom races to collect 471 points for the title….[she] became the first German to win the title since Martina Ertl 12 years ago”

Maria Riesch, also representing Germany, came in third in the race and doing so killed Lindsey Vonn’s big lead. Lindsey continued to make mistake after mistake and when the snow settled Kathrin Hoelzl was left on top.

“I am still overwhelmed,” Kathrin said.
