Milli McCourt

Byron Bay High School student and Brazilian jiu jitsu star Milli McCourt has won the school’s Recognition of Outstanding Performance award for her achievements in 2015.

Milli dominated the sport in Australia, winning the gold medal in the national championships in Adelaide, gold in the Oceania championships in Sydney and gold in the Pan Pacific Rim championships in Melbourne.

She then traveled to the United States to compete against the world’s best juniors.

Milli won gold in the American nationals in Las Vegas, held in conjunction with the UFC week and Conor McGregor fight, then competed and won gold in the Kids Worlds in Los Angeles, which made her the female 15 years lightweight champion of the world.

“I’m happy with my results this year and proud to be an ambassador for girls in the sport,” she said.

Her father Matt said: “Milli set her goals and worked very hard to achieve them. She showed a lot of commitment and determination.”
