Well, Karla Reyes’s dad got a great Christmas present – $20,000.

The fitness model and UNBA bodybuilder won a 2008 Prolab Nutrition contest and was given the option of a new car or $20,000, and she opted for the money which she gave to her father for Christmas. Reyes, originally from El Salvador, is one of 6 children, and says she gave it to her dad to “show my appreciation for everything he’s done over the years for our family

“CHATSWORTH, Calif. – (Business Wire) Prolab Nutrition, Inc. announces that Los Angeles resident, Karla Reyes, is the grand-prize winner of the 2008 Prolab Charging Forward Dodge Charger Giveaway sweepstakes.† Given the option of a new car versus cash value, Ms. Reyes is accepting the cash — $20,000 total — which she is giving to her father as a Christmas present!

A total of 388,923 consumers entered this sweepstakes, launched at the 2008 Arnold CLASSIC — the nation’s largest health and fitness consumer trade show (February 29-March 2, 2008); and, it continued through the Joe Weider’s 2008 Olympia Weekend (September 26-27, 2008) — showcasing the latest sports science and nutrition innovations to more than 25,000 bodybuilding and fitness enthusiasts from around the world.

The public was encouraged to enter the contest at Prolab’s booth at both trade shows, as well as online until October 31, 2008, via Prolab’s promotional partner, BodyBuilding.com, the world’s top online sports nutrition retailer and most visited bodybuilding and fitness Web site. Reyes entered the promotion in person during the Joe Weider 2008 Olympia Weekend.

Upon hearing she is the grand-prize winner, Reyes exclaimed, “I always wondered if anyone ever won things given away at contests like this one!” She continued, “I’m so grateful for all the wonderful blessings I’ve received this year, and I want to thank Prolab and BodyBuilding.com for offering this contest, allowing me to give my dad the Christmas present he deserves and show my appreciation for everything he’s done over the years for our family…we are all very close.”

Born and raised in Acajutla, El Salvador, Reyes moved to L.A. with her family in May, 1992. She is one of six children to her parents, who both work for L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. A Licensed Vocational Nurse and graduate of St. Francis Career College in Lynwood, CA, Reyes is finishing her prerequisite classes in order to enter an RN program. She’s also a hostess at a Beverly Hills restaurant.

The day she was notified of winning the prize, Reyes said she had been worrying about one of her patients. She was lunching with her sisters when she received Prolab’s call that she won the grand prize and, she said, “It brightened my day.”

A fitness enthusiast — her motto is “Fit For Life!” — Reyes uses Prolab® protein shakes for supplementation, and she loves weight training…she goes to the gym five days every week. She also enjoys boxing and jumping rope for cardio workouts.

Reyes has also been competing for more than six years, including two NPC (National Physique Committee) events in 2002, placing 15th in her first-ever competition, and placing 10th in her second competition. In fact, it was at this NPC competition where Reyes met and befriended TEAM PROLAB athlete Moji Oluwa while they were both competing there…she didn’t know anyone as it was her first-ever show.

Reyes stated, “Moji gave me some very useful advice on how to do better in future competitions, and we’ve stayed friends ever since, even working together in the Muscle Beach Venice competitions.” She added, “He was a judge at my last show, and I’m also friends with his lovely wife.”

In 2003, Reyes joined UNBA (United Natural Bodybuilding Association) and entered one of the organization’s competitions, winning 1st place in the bodybuilding category and 6th place in the model search category. Since 2004, she has competed in the Muscle Beach Venice figure category and has won several 2nd place trophies and a 3rd place trophy.”
