Exploits Competitors

The Exploits region was well represented at last week’s provincial bodybuilding competitions with a mixture of veterans and rookies.

Sabrina Collins, also of Grand Falls-Windsor also competed in the bikini class and another Grand Falls-Windsor resident, Noah Kelly, entered the men’s physique tall class.

Yet another Grand Falls-Windsor resident, Glen Casey, is chief judge for the province and said it’s encouraging to see the region represented against on the provincial stage.

He noted that the two ladies who placed second have qualified for the national competition, if they chose to enter. The location for that competition has not yet been determined.

Casey said he wouldn’t be surprised if the region turns out some more competitors at the provincial level over the next couple of years.

Jaime Reid of Bishops Falls, 39 years old, placed second in Bikini Masters and fourth in bikini short all ages.

“It’s hard to tell with this sport though because its so time consuming,” Casey said. “These competitors have to spend several hours every day in the gym, and then there’s the diet regimen. It all takes away from other aspects of your life. It’s very tough mentally.”

But, there are many who take up the challenge, Casey noted, and others in the region who might be considering could gain from the knowledge of those who have stepped onto the stage.

“If anyone is interested, I’d suggest they touch base with these local competitors to find out exactly what’s involved. Or they can contact me,” he said.
