Edinburgh judokas Sally Conway and Sarah Adlington failed to make an impact at the Tokyo Grand Slam.
Conway, world ranked number eight, lost her opening fight to Yoko Ono from the host nation in the Under-70kg event.
Ono went on to reach the final before losing to compatriot Chizuru Arai took gold.
Adlington also fell at the first hurdle, going down to Tessie Savelkouls from the Netherlands in the Over-78kg event.
Edinburgh-based Gemma Gibbons won a bronze in the Under-78kg competition.
Japan dominated the event, winning 11 of the 14 titles.
