IFBB figure pro Chaundra Tangi is sitting in a hospital room in Denver on her birthday alone, waiting for her husband to come out of surgery for the 3rd time this week and fearing the worst. SHE IS ASKING FOR YOUR PRAYERS.

In what can only be described as a freak incident, Chaundra’s husband Brian was playing with their 4 year old son Daniel in the park on Saturday and Brian was standing on a ledge when his left foot slipped causing him to bang his shin.

There was no cause for alarm Chaundra explains, “I wasn’t anything. He had a small mark about the size of a nickel and it barely scraped the skin.” Brian and young Daniel came home and went about their business as normal.

The following day nothing remarkable happened until later that evening when Brian started to feel some discomfort in the area of the scrape. By 11pm Sunday night, this guy that never takes pain medication was in enough pain to ask his wife for some ibuprofen.

By 1am, now Monday morning the pain elevated and they started discussing a call to the doctor but Brian felt he would “just hold off a little bit”.

By 3am the pain was so extreme Brian was shaking and they drove to the hospital emergency room. After an initial examination an infectious disease specialist was called.

At 6am Brian was diagnosed as having Necrotizing Faciitis, better known as flesh eating bacteria. He was admitted to hospital.

At 6pm on Monday he underwent surgery to remove the affected tissue on his leg. The doctors cut away skin, and muscle tissue leaving a gaping hole in his leg.

On Wednesday at 2:30pm Brian underwent a second surgery as the rapidly moving disease continued to consume the remaining healthy flesh surrounding the wound. The image posted here is from that surgery.

Today at 5:30pm Brian underwent a third surgery as the bacteria had spread to his ankle and lower leg.

There is no prognosis at this point. They are fighting to save his leg at this point but the disease has claimed victims lives many times in the past.

Chaundra and Brian had a conference today with the surgeon and she explained his strategy, “He said he would rather do 5 or 6 more smaller surgeries than one big one because he wants Brian to have a leg to run on next year.” With that Chaundra broke down on the phone and took a few moments to let the pressure of being strong for her husband release.

“The surgeon is incredible” She said, “He said he is going to do everything he possibly can in his power to save Brian’s leg.”

As far as Brian goes he is staying positive and keeping his unwavering faith in God. Through her tears Chaundra shared the last few moments they had before he was taken into surgery. Facing the possibility of waking up without a leg Brian spoke calmly about how he felt and ultimately summed up in a couple words the kind of man he is. “He is so strong. He’s never broken down. As he was about to go into surgery his last words to me were , ‘Well Chaun, it will be interesting at the end of all this to see what God’s plan is’.”
