Next month, Southern California’s Select Side All Star Girls Rugby Team, the Griffin Girls, will be arriving in Sri Lanka (an island just off the southern tip of Asia) on a women’s rugby tour that is making history. For the first time, a team from the USA is travelling to Sri Lanka, and this is the first time the Sri Lanka womens team is not playing 7’s. This game will showcase 15-players on each side rather than the faster game of 7’s where there are 7 girls a side.

The Griffin Girls have played in USA National All Star Championships and against Canadian teams, but this will be the first time that they will be touring overseas.

“I am looking forward to experiencing the Sri Lankan culture first hand and to the bond that will be created between the players from each team” said Team Manager Chris Hall. “I always tell new players that if you play rugby long enough it will take you around the world. These young women have the opportunity to travel 9300 miles to another country to play the sport they love and meet others that love the sport. Rugby is the tie that binds these two cultures”.
