Tate Chokes Out Holm To Become UFC Bantamweight Champion

In UFC 196 pay-per-view co-headliner match, Miesha “Cupcake” Tate ((18-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) came up huge in the final round to choke out Bantamweight Champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm, (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC), to become the NEW Bantamweight Champion.

Based on the judges score cards to that point, Tate needed to finish the fight in order to claim the title. Entering the fifth round, Tate was trailing Holm 38-37. Had Tate gone on to win round 5 with a 10-9 round, the final score would have been a 47-47 draw with Holm retaining the title. Thanks to a huge second round, Tate was able to uncover Holm’s weakness on the ground and was able to take her down with minutes left in the fight.
