Bothwell Middle School student Gabby Swajanen participates in many weightlifting competitions, including the Brew City open in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was there two months ago and qualified for the next level of competition.
“I’m competing at Junior Nationals for weightlifting in Philadelphia on Friday. It’s a competition with a lot of older kids,” Swajanen said.
At 13 years old, she is the youngest competitor to qualify in the 48 kg category with most of the participants coming in at age 20. The event starts Friday morning at 9 a.m. and it will be streamed live on the US National weightlifting team’s website at teamusa.org/USA–weightlifting.
