The aqua aerobics class at your local swimming pool just won’t cut it once you see these spectacular workout photographs captured underwater.
Photographer Jessica Ann Keolaonalani Bacerra snapped model Kathryn Brown lifting heavy rocks and weights at the bottom of an idyllic lagoon in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Other are captured floating in aerobic poses as they use the crystal clear waters as a replacement – and extremely picturesque – gym.
The model’s svelte, toned body is displayed in a variety of skimpy bikinis. The bleached white sand and crystal blue waters provide a stunning backdrop as she is put through her paces with a series of athletic poses.
Jessica Ann, also from Hawaii, has been interested in underwater photography for the past 18 months. However she admitted that it had been a ‘tricky shoot’ to orchestrate.
She was inspired to create the innovative photographic collection after seeing local people use the sea bed for various energetic activities.
She said: ‘Everyone in Hawaii does underwater rock runs and underwater rock lifting. I’ve never seen anyone use actual weights in the water – I thought it would be an original concept.
‘The barbell and plates weighed 65 pounds, and the model carried her duffel bag with clothing, towels and other props while I had my swim and camera gear.
‘It took an hour and a half of swimming, diving, lifting and positioning ourselves to get all the shots.’
Despite the logistical difficulties – not least for both her and the model to hold their breath – Jessica Ann is thrilled with the finished snaps.
In one image Kathryn sports a surprising choice of workout gear as she dons high heels and a hot pink dress to lift rocks on the stunning seabed.
Jessica Ann said: ‘The underwater gym pictures were very difficult to set up, but I’m so pleased with how they turned out – I love them all.’
