Audree Martin paced the Troup girls powerlifting team at the Lindale powerlifting meet Saturday Jan. 9.
Martin finished in second place in the 148-pound weight class. She finished with 225 pounds in squat, 95 pounds in bench and 230 pounds in deadlift for a total of 550 pounds.
“With it being the first meet of the season and having a group made up of mainly first time lifters, the focus was for the girls to learn and gain experience,” said powerlifting coach Brian Lawson. “The girls surpassed expectations.”
Troup placed seventh in the meet with nine team points. Longview Pine Tree won the meet with 37 points, followed by Bullard with 26 and Lindale with 25. There were 14 teams that participated in the meet.
Cheyenne Henson, Marissa Martin and Katie York each placed third in their respective divisions. Henson finished with 235 pounds in the in squat, 95 pounds in bench and 250 pounds in deadlift for a total of 580 pounds in the 165-pound weight class. Marissa Martin participated in the 148-pound division and finished with 225 pounds in squat, 100 pounds in bench and 225 pounds in deadlift for a total of 550 pounds. York, who participated in the 132-pound class, finished with 250 pounds in squat, 100 pounds in bench and 230 pounds in deadlift for a total of 580 pounds.
Also for Troup, Addison Solomon participated in the 148-pound class and she finished with 215 pounds in squat, 100 pounds in bench and 185 pounds in deadlift for a total of 500 pounds; and Bailee Casteel, Madi Burke and Brenda Rojo were unable to post scores in all three categories.
“We didn’t place in the top three as a team but were only bested by teams from (Class) 4A and 5A schools,” Lawson said. “I am so pleased with where we are as a team and the individual growth since we started in November.”
Lawson said the team goal for the next meet is to place among the top three teams. The Lady Tigers will next participate in the Van meet Saturday, Jan. 16.
Following the Van meet, Troup will participate in the Chapel Hill meet at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, and in the Bullard meet at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. Troup will host the girls regional meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, and the boys regional meet will be Saturday, March 5 in Elkhart.
