Jessica Wiuff and Carron Shubert

There are times in life when it seems like a goal that one wants to obtain is unreachable. Sometimes, that can be as simple as losing a couple pounds or going back to school to pursue a degree.

However, it tends to get complicated when life gets in the way. People get married. They have a job. They start a family. All of these things take away the focus toward that goal and steer them into a path of complacency.

For Jessica Wiuff and Carron Shubert, complacency wasn’t enough. After years of contemplating going into the world of body building, they went through with it with months of training before finding success at last month’s Med City Classic in Rochester.

“It always kind of intrigued me,” Shubert said of her initial thought of the sport. “I would buy the fitness magazines and see these women and think to myself ‘How did they get this muscle mass?’

“I saw some magazines and posts on social media,” Wiuff explained. “Growing up, I never wanted to be a female with muscle, but seeing what you can do to your body in such a short amount of time is amazing.”

The road to the Med City Classic was an interesting one. Both Wiuff and Shubert had thoughts of jumping into fitness competitions, but also had things in the way with families, jobs and other things that life offers.
