Last week, the Franklin County girls weightlifting team continued to put their muscles with their mouths are, as they repeated victories over Vernon and Port St. Joe.
In their only home meet of the season on Monday, the girls, under the direction of coach Kassi Malcolm, again overwhelmed Port St. Joe.
“Tonight couldn’t have gone any better!” said Malcolm. “The crowd we had tonight was outstanding and by far the biggest crowd that we’ve seen at any meet. Now I’m not talking about our supporters that follow us, I am talking about any supporters of any of the other schools that we have seen.
“I was thoroughly impressed tonight with how much support the girls have out there! Our supporters definitely had something to cheer for tonight; the team was nothing short of outstanding,” she said. “As always the competition against St. Joe was fierce. As a team we took first.”
Individual results were as follows:
- Freshman Brooke Newell, first place in the 110-pound weight class with a new maximum of 90 in clean & jerks
- Sophomore Madison Smith, first place in the 129 weight class with a new max of 115 in bench
- Freshman Melanie Collins, first place in 154 weight class with a new max of 125 in clean & jerks

On Dec. 10, the team traveled to Vernon for the second time this season.
