Mathapelo Pule (22), a member of the Shorin Kempo Karate Club in Katlehong, has done nothing but excel in the tournaments and competitions she took part in throughout the year.
Junior instructor Mathapelo Pule (22) has been on a constant rise over the years as a karateka.
Pule was among the Shorin Kempo Karate Club members who took part in a karate tournament held in Port Elizabeth, recently.
“Pule managed to secure two first places in the open division,” said her sensei, Thulane Sibisi.
“She is dedicated and gives her all in everything she puts her mind to.”
Sibisi told the GCN that Pule’s recent achievement is an addition to the others she has received this year.
“Among other things, she placed second in a Kata tournament that was held at Carnival City, in April, and in July she also placed second in the So-kyokushin kata category at a competition held in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“She was also invited to the Karate South Africa Selection Tournament where she was selected to represent the country in Russia.
“She managed to make podium position in third place.”
The Katlehong sensei added that the young karateka started karate seven years ago.
“In 2008, she came to our dojo to learn basic self-defence to protect herself but as soon as she joined the club and graded from a white to an orange belt she has never looked back,” he said.
“Seven years later, Pule is now a junior instructor sitting on a first Dan black belt and is referred to as a shodan.
“I love her spirit, she has proved herself, works very hard and sets a good example to all the other members at the dojo.”
