Judoka Megan Fletcher was philosophical after her round of 32 defeat in the under-70kg category at the European Games in Baku.
The 25-year-old was up against Poland’s Katarzyna Klys, but frustratingly lost out following a pair of yukos
“I fought well and I just got caught, that’s how it works in judo,” Fletcher reflected. “I made one mistake and that’s it, end of the fight and out of the competition, so it’s just frustrating.
“You train all the time leading up to this and then that’s it, done.
“Training has been fine, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I felt good on the mat, that’s just judo. On a different day it can be completely different.
“If I could have got fifth place or above I would have been happy, but that won’t be the case.”
Team-mate Gemma Howell performed marginally better in the under-63kg group, winning her first game against Hilde Drexler, but was defeat in the last 16 by Mia Hermansonn of Sweden with a waza-ari.
