Hartland may be best known for having the world’s longest covered bridge, but now it has another world record holder in its midst.

Powerlifter Eva Dunbar claimed a world record this month by lifting some big numbers in competition.

“I squatted 424 pounds, I benched 264 pounds and I dead-lifted 501,” said Dunbar, who weighs 148 pounds and is five feet, two inches tall.

Those lifts total 1,190 pounds, or 540 kilograms, to establish a world record for “raw” or unequipped lifting in her weight category.

Dunbar began lifting just three years ago.

“I knew from the moment I did my first meet that I absolutely fell in love with it,” said Dunbar. “It’s empowering.

“There’s passion, there’s fire and there’s cameraderie and all of those things that I want to be a part of.

“My ultimate goal was not just to be the strongest woman on the planet for this weight class, it was to set the new precedent, the new standard for that weight class.”

Dunbar’s next big competition is the Arnold Weightlifting Championships in Ohio next March.
